Rehab & Physiotherapies in Norfolk NE
We often incorporate rehabilitative exercises and stretches into a patient's treatment plan. There is research showing the benefits of combined manipulation and exercise, often providing faster pain relief with longer lasting affects. We often give stretches and exercises to our patients to do at home, or we have patients do them at the clinic as part of their rehab treatment in Norfolk NE.
Physiotherapies that we offer include:
- Painless cold laser therapy
- Electrical muscle stimulation
- Mechanical traction
- Ultrasound
Cold Laser Therapy
Cold Laser therapy is low level laser that is painless and can be helpful for chronic or acute pain, and can be used for post-surgical pain. It is beneficial for muscle and joint pain, stiffness associated with arthritis, muscle spasm, hand and wrist pain associated with carpal tunnel, tendonitis, TMJ, rotator cuff injury, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and more.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical muscle stimulation is special form of electrical current that is administered at the site of pain, muscle tightness or injury to reduce spasm and pain. Small amounts of electrical current are induced into the tissues for the purpose of reducing swelling and tightness. This a widely used procedure and is quite safe and effective. Patients generally feel a slight tingling sensation when applied and intensity is determined by the patient to their comfort level. Electrical muscle stimulation is used to reduce pain, decrease swelling and inflammation, and to speed the healing process.
Mechanical Traction
Intersegmental traction provides passive motion into the spine to stretch spinal joints and increase mobility. The patient lies on their back on a table that has rollers beneath the surface. These rollers slowly travel the length of the spinal, gently stretching spinal joints. Most patients find this form of treatment to be relaxing and very helpful. The discs in the spine are affected by fixations or misalignments of the spine in that fixations prevent the natural circulation of blood supply and nutrients. This can cause disc thinning and degeneration. Intersegmental traction helps increase blood flow, and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine. Most patients enjoy the relaxing motion and the increased mobility gained from Intersegmental traction.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high-frequency sound waves to the soft tissues. Sound waves penetrate the tissues deep in the body, creating heat. The vibrations and heat increases blood flow, relaxes muscle spasms, massages damaged tissues, and speeds the healing process. During treatment, most patients feel nothing, or a pleasant and relaxing sensation below the surface of the skin.
